14 Self-Love Activities On Valentine’s Day For People In Recovery

February 4, 2021 - Life in Recovery, Love and Relationships - 0 Comments

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and affection but it can also be an opportunity for you to show yourself some self-love.

You can do something special for yourself and treat yourself, whether you have someone in your life or not.

If you’re single and feeling down, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy the holiday and be filled with self-love. Remember that self-love is love! It’s important to take care of yourself on this special day as well as any other day of the year.

So, here are 14 activities that will help you keep loving yourself and inspire others to do so as well.

Practice mindfulness meditation to start your day.

On Valentine’s Day For People In RecoveryStart your Valentine’s Day right by being calm and relaxed. You can do this by practicing mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation involves focusing on your breathing while silently repeating a mantra in your mind. The goal is to be completely present during the practice, which will help you become more aware about what’s happening around you as well as within yourself.

The great thing about this practice is that you can do it anywhere, You can meditate from 3 minutes up to 30 minutes so you can definitely fit it into your morning routine. Mindfulness meditation has been proven to help reduce stress levels, increase productivity at work, improve self-awareness, and sleep quality. It also has positive effects on mental health such as lowering anxiety.

Write down all the things you love about yourself, then read it back to yourself.

Write down all the things you love about yourself, then read it back to yourself every day. You are amazing, and it’s time to start believing that.  It may sound silly at first but this can help you be more positive and it can also help you build your self-confidence.

Make a playlist of songs that remind you why you are worth loving.

Music is a powerful tool for enhancing mood and energy levels. It’s also helpful to use music as a way to relax and destress. If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, try listening to some songs that empower and motivate.

Dance to your favorite tunes.

Love to dance? You don’t need a dance partner to enjoy this activity on Valentine’s Day. Put on your dancing shoes and sway to your favorite beats.

Read your favorite book.

Reading your favorite book will bring back feel-good memories about what you loved about it the first time you read it. It’s also a great “me-time” activity that you can do at home.

Watch your favorite comedy movies.

Just because it’s Valentine’s does not mean you have to stick to romance movies on the Hallmark Channel. Self-love is all about feeling good and what better way to do that but have some laughs by having a comedy movie or TV show marathon?

Give yourself a foot massage.

No chance to go to the spa? Lather on your favorite scented oil or lotion and give yourself a foot massage. You’ll be surprised at how relaxing this can be.

Get dressed up in something nice, just for yourself!

Even if you don’t have a date on Valentine’s Day and you’re just stuck at home, you can still dress up in something nice. Take a mirror selfie of yourself and post it on Instagram for some hearts!

Take a bubble bath with candles and rose petals.

People In RecoveryA self-love list will not be complete without the suggestion of a bubble bath complete with scented candles and petals. Luxuriating in a warm bubble bath will never fail to make you feel good.

Buy flowers and place them around your home.

Don’t wait for someone to give you flowers. Get some for yourself and display them around your house. Adding flowers to your home can make it feel cozier and more beautiful.

Treat yourself to a gourmet takeout meal from a nice restaurant.

Have a date with yourself by treating yourself with a sumptuous meal from a nice restaurant. If you prefer cooking, prepare a special dish that you don’t normally cook on a normal day.

Enjoy some hot chocolate.

Spoil yourself by having some hot chocolate. This is a great idea especially for people who are in addiction recovery. Not only is hot chocolate soothing, it definitely won’t give you a hang-over.

Take a nature walk.

Want to spend the day outdoors? Take a walk or hike on a nature trail if the weather allows it. This is a great activity that is social-distancing friendly, too.

Catch up with your loved ones over video call.

If you live away from your loved ones and you can’t physically spend time with them, you can still catch up with them through a video call. A short chat can do wonders to make you feel loved and supported.

If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse, help is available.
