Addiction Recovery Playlist: 12 Songs That Will Motivate You and Lift You Up

July 4, 2019 - Addiction Treatment, Life in Recovery, Substance Abuse - 0 Comments

Listening to music is a great way to improve your mood, relax, and feel much better. In fact, there have been studies showing that music therapy is one method to boost dopamine naturally, resulting in increased pleasurable feelings and happier outlook.

When you are in addiction recovery, music can be very helpful because it can help you to get through the difficult times by motivating you to focus on your end goal of sobriety.

While there are many songs about addiction, drugs, and alcohol, what we complied are songs that do not necessarily talk about substance abuse, instead, these are uplifting songs that can inspire you during your recovery journey.

By listening to this playlist, we hope that you will feel empowered and realize that you are a brave and beautiful person who deserve an amazing life ahead of you.

Through the Rain

Mariah Carey

When you get caught in the rain with nowhere to run

When you’re distraught and in pain without anyone

When you keep crying out to be safe but nobody comes

And you feel so far away that you just can’t find your way home

You can get there alone, it’s okay, what you say is

I can make it through the rain

I can stand up once again on my own

And I know that I’m strong enough to mend

And every time I feel afraid I hold tighter to my faith

And I live one more day and I make it through the rain

The Climb

Miley Cyrus

The struggles I’m facing

The chances I’m taking

Sometimes might knock me down but

No I’m not breaking

I may not know it

But these are the moments that

I’m going to remember most yeah

Just got to keep going

And I

I gotta be strong

Just keep pushing on, ’cause

There’s always gonna be another mountain

I’m always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be an uphill battle

Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there

Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side

It’s the climb

Hero

Mariah Carey

There’s a hero

If you look inside your heart

You don’t have to be afraid

Of what you are

There’s an answer

If you reach into your soul

And the sorrow that you know

Will melt away

And then a hero comes along

With the strength to carry on

And you cast your fears aside

And you know you can survive

So when you feel like hope is gone

Look inside you and be strong

And you’ll finally see the truth

That a hero lies in you

Skyscraper

Demi Lovato

Skies are crying, I am watching

Catching teardrops in my hands

Only silence, as it’s ending

Like we never had a chance

Do you have to make me feel like

There’s nothing left of me?

You can take everything I have

You can break everything I am

Like I’m made of glass

Like I’m made of paper

Go on and try to tear me down

I will be rising from the ground

Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper

Fight Song

Rachel Platten

This is my fight song

Take back my life song

Prove I’m alright song

My power’s turned on

Starting right now I’ll be strong

I’ll play my fight song

And I don’t really care if nobody else believes

‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

Losing friends and I’m chasing sleep

Everybody’s worried about me

In too deep

Say I’m in too deep (in too deep)

And it’s been two years I miss my home

But there’s a fire burning in my bones

Still believe

Yeah, I still believe

Somewhere I Belong

Linkin Park

I want to heal, I want to feel,

What I thought was never real

I want to let go of the pain I felt so long (erase all the pain ’til it’s gone)

I want to heal, I want to feel

Like I’m close to something real

I want to find something I’ve wanted all along

Somewhere I belong

Survivor

Destiny’s Child

Now that you’re outta my life, I’m so much better

You thought that I’d be weak without ya, but I’m stronger

You thought that I’d be broke without ya, but I’m richer

You thought that I’d be sad without ya, I love harder

You thought I wouldn’t grow without ya, now I’m wiser!

You thought that I’d be helpless without ya but I’m smarter

You thought that I’d be stressed without ya, but I’m chillin’

You thought I wouldn’t sell without ya, sold nine million

I’m a survivor (what), I’m not gon’ give up (what)

I’m not gon’ stop (what), I’m gon’ work harder (what)

I’m a survivor (what), I’m gonna make it (what)

I will survive (what), keep on survivin’ (what)

Part of Me

Katy Perry

You took my light, you drained me down

But that was then and this is now, now look at me

This is the part of me

That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no!

This is the part of me

That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no!

Throw your sticks and your stones, throw your bombs and your blows

But you’re not gonna break my soul

This is the part of me

That you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no!

I’m Still Standing

Elton John

And did you think this fool could never win

Well look at me, I’m coming back again

I got a taste of love in a simple way

And if you need to know while I’m still standing you just fade away

Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did

Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid

I’m still standing after all this time

Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah

Roar

Katy Perry

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)

Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, your hear that sound

Like thunder, gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready ’cause I had enough

I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter

Dancing through the fire

‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar

Louder, louder than a lion

‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar!

Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)

Kelly Clarkson

You think you got the best of me

Think you had the last laugh

Bet you think that everything good is gone

Think you left me broken down

Think that I’d come running back

Baby you don’t know me, ’cause you’re dead wrong

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

Stand a little taller

Doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone

What doesn’t kill you makes a fighter

Footsteps even lighter

Doesn’t mean I’m over ’cause you’re gone

Firework

Katy Perry

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag

Drifting thought the wind

Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin

Like a house of cards

One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep

Six feet under scream

But no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there’s still a chance for you

‘Cause there’s a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light

And let it shine

Just own the night

Like the Fourth of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework

Come on show ’em what your worth
