For Family

Family and Addiction

Families are almost always effected by advanced addiction. Addiction is called “a family disease” for a good reason. The family of an addict tends to suffer almost as much as the addict themselves. It is at this time the disease has progressed to a crisis level.

Thankfully, there is a solution to the families pain. Families need healthy ways to cope with the pain and chaos addiction has caused. At Lighthouse Treatment Center, we provide an opportunity for new beginnings and healing for families affected by drug and alcohol addiction.

Addiction: A Family Disease

The pain of substance abuse created in those who are close to an addict can become overwhelming.

Participation in our Family Program is essential for rebuilding trust, creating healthy boundaries, allowing the addict to take responsibility for their actions while in addiction, and overall healing.

Often times, so much damage is caused by active addiction, and just because the addict gets treatment doesn’t always mean the problem is solved for the family.

Codependency and enabling behaviors often feed into addiction, creating resentment, fear, family dysfunction and other unhealthy behaviors. By being active in the addict’s recovery process, our program allows the family to act in healthier ways and start supporting the solution rather than the problem.

Recovery for the Family

Receiving support throughout the recovery process is a key to healing the wounds of addiction. We encourage our family members to get involved in Al-Anon support groups and other fellowships which help build a supportive network of people who are going through the same experience. You don’t have to go through this alone!

It is important to process the many feelings that may surface once the addict has entered treatment. Participating in our family program encourages loved ones to take advantage of therapy groups, counseling sessions with the addict, and attend educational groups on alcoholism and addiction.

Doing this will increase understanding and awareness of unhealthy behaviors, and help to see the dysfunctional roles that addiction has created in your home life.

Lighthouse Treatment Center’s Family Program is available for close friends, spouses and immediate family members who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction. The program is designed to help you and your beloved addict learn to live together in a loving, supportive way without abusing drugs or alcohol.
