Are you a dab pen user who’s about to undergo a drug test? Maybe you’re wondering whether using a dab pen will cause you to fail a drug test. What will be the result? Do dab pens show up on a drug test? These are just some common questions dab pen users ask. Whether you’re a habitual dab pen user or you just used a dab pen once, this will have a different result on your drug test depending on other factors.
First, let’s discuss what a dab pen is. A dab pen is a portable electronic device similar to an electronic cigarette or vaping device. The main difference is that instead of containing tobacco with flavorings, dab pens contain dab weed. Dab pens come in different styles, designs, and sizes but many models are in a long, cylindrical shape resembling a writing pen. This is the reason why they are referred to as dab pens.
As mentioned already, dab pens contain dab weed or dabs. Dab weed is a concentrated form of weed extracted from the marijuana plant. Dabs can come in different forms and called by different names depending on the variety including wax, shatter, honeycomb, honey oil, butter. Compared to regular marijuana, dab weed has a higher THC content. THC, which is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main psychoactive compound in the cannabis plant. It is the substance responsible for producing mind-altering side effects which make you feel high.
A lot of times, many dab weed users who take the substance using a dab pen are not aware that dab weed is actually from the marijuana plant. Because dab pens resemble a vape pen, some users think that it’s just a stronger variant of vaping substances. This misconception, however, is dangerous because the user unknowingly takes the substance without realizing that it could produce intense psychological effects and worse, could affect the result of a drug test.
Dab Pens Show Up In A Drug Test
The answer to the question of whether using dab pens show up on a drug test is yes. Yes, using dab pens show up on a drug test because dab weed is extracted from the marijuana plant. When you undergo a drug test, you will usually be tested for the presence of THC in your system. Because dab weed contains a much higher concentration of THC compared to regular weed, the presence of THC will be detected.
In fact, there’s a higher chance THC will be detected if you used a dab pen compared to smoking regular weed. Dab weed contains 70% to 90% of THC while regular weed only contains 15% THC. Most potent weed varieties only contain 25% to 40% THC. So, if THC is one of the substances you’re not supposed to take, then you will fail the drug test if this substance is detected in your system.
The next obvious question for dab pen users is how long will dab weed be detected in your system? This will depend on a variety of factors. Every person will have a different time processing and eliminating THC from the system depending on their body’s metabolism, age, weight, sex, kidney function, and liver function.
The strength of the dab weed and how often the user uses dab pens are also significant variables that will affect the drug test results. Here is a range of the minimum and maximum times dab weed could be detected in your system depending on the type of drug test conducted. The shortest period applies to one-time users while the maximum applies to extremely heavy dab pen users. Again, this is just a range and could vary depending on your level of use.
Dab Weed Urine Test – 1 day to 90 days
Dab Weed Saliva Test – 1 hour to 4 weeks
Dab Weed Blood Test – 1 day to 1 month
Dab Weed Hair Test – 7 days to 90 days
Can CBD pens show up on a drug test?
CBD vape pens are different from dab pens. Unlike dab pens that contain dab weed with high THC content, CBD vape pens are supposed to only contain CBD or cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is another active compound found in the cannabis plant. While it is used for its calming effects, it is not psychoactive or mind-altering like THC.
In theory, using a CBD vape pen should not produce a positive drug test result for THC as long as you are really just using a pure CBD product. However, this is not a guarantee because CBD products including CBD vape pens are not regulated. This means that there are no standards or reviews to assure that the CBD vape pen does not contain any THC. Many CBD products contain trace amounts of THC and there’s really no way to tell whether they have THC or not unless you take a drug test. According to one study conducted by John Hopkins Medicine researchers, trace amounts of THC in CBD products can trigger a cannabis-positive in urine drug tests. It is then important to be cautious in using any vaping products as you might think you’re using a CBD vape pen, not knowing that it has THC.
